RaceLab Support – Promo Code Overlay (Streaming – Any platform)

Promo Code Overlay (Streaming – Any platform)

The Promo Code overlay shows a clean, readable panel with your promo or affiliate code on screen. Instead of repeating the code every few minutes, you can keep it visible in a corner so viewers always know what to use if they want to support you or get a discount.

Platform independent: the Promo Code overlay is just a browser source. It works fine with Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Facebook, or any platform your streaming software sends to.

What the Promo Code overlay is good for

  • Showing your creator / referral / affiliate code.
  • Highlighting time-limited discounts or promotions.
  • Reminding viewers how to support you without constant voice mentions.
  • Adding a professional-looking “sponsor bar” to your layout.

You can use it for RaceLab-related codes, sim hardware partners, or any other sponsor arrangement you have, as long as you follow the rules of the platform you stream on.

1. Requirements

  • RaceLab app installed and running.
  • Streaming software such as OBS Studio or Streamlabs.
  • A layout in RaceLab for your stream overlays.
  • Your promo or affiliate code and any short text you want to show.

2. Create a layout with Promo Code overlay

  1. Open the RaceLab App.
  2. Go to the Layouts section.
  3. Create a new layout (for example: “Stream – Promo Code Banner”) or edit your existing stream layout.
  4. Click Add widget.
  5. Select the Promo Code / Promo code alert overlay (exact name depends on your RaceLab version).
  6. Place the overlay where it will be visible but not in the way:
    • Bottom or top edge of the screen, or
    • Just under your webcam / name banner.
  7. Resize the panel so the promo text fits cleanly on one or two lines.
  8. Adjust background colour, border and font in RaceLab to match your stream branding and keep it readable.
  9. Save the layout.
Tip – keep the message short A simple line like “Support me with code: RACELABSCOTT” or “Use promo code: SCOTTOZY for eligible offers” is easier to read than a long paragraph.

3. Set the promo text in RaceLab

  1. With your layout open, select the Promo Code widget.
  2. Find the text / message field for the overlay.
  3. Enter your promo code and any short explanation, for example:
    • “Promo code: SCOTTOZY”
    • “Use code SCOTTOZY at checkout (where available)”
  4. Check the preview in RaceLab to make sure:
    • The code is easy to read.
    • Nothing is cut off at the edges.
  5. Save the layout.

4. Add the Promo Code overlay to OBS / Streamlabs

  1. In RaceLab, open the layout that contains your Promo Code overlay.
  2. Copy the overlay URL / browser link for that layout.
  3. Open OBS Studio (or your streaming software).
  4. Select the scene where you want the promo banner to appear (usually your main driving / talking scene).
  5. Click Add > Browser Source.
  6. Name it something like “RaceLab – Promo Code overlay”.
  7. Paste the RaceLab overlay URL into the URL box.
  8. Set the size, for example:
    • Width: 600–1200 pixels
    • Height: 80–160 pixels
  9. Press OK and move the banner to the final position.
Tip – always visible vs. “on demand” You can keep the promo banner always visible in a corner, or create a separate browser source you only show during sponsor mentions. Decide what looks cleaner for your layout.

5. Updating or changing your promo code

  1. Keep the RaceLab app open during your stream or before going live.
  2. Open the layout with the Promo Code overlay.
  3. Edit the promo text (for example when a code changes or a new promotion starts).
  4. Save the layout. The overlay in OBS will update automatically after a short moment.
  5. Check your OBS preview to confirm the text shows the correct code before you announce it to viewers.

6. Common problems and quick fixes

  • Promo text is hard to read:
Use high contrast colours (for example dark background with white text), increase font size, and avoid placing the banner over busy parts of the game.
  • Text is cut off:
Shorten the message, reduce font size, or increase the overlay width / height in RaceLab and in the Browser Source settings.
  • Overlay covers important HUD info:
Move the banner to another corner, shrink it slightly, or use a separate “Sponsor / Promo” scene for dedicated callouts.
  • Viewers forget the code anyway:
Mention the code verbally now and then, but let the overlay carry the main workload. You can also add the same code in your panel / video description for viewers who check later.
  • Wrong code shown by mistake:
Always update the text in RaceLab when promotions change. Do a quick “sponsor check” at the start of your stream so you don’t advertise old or expired codes.
