What “Free to use” means: in the RaceLab overlay picker, overlays that are free will appear without a Pro badge.
The easiest way to confirm is simply: open the overlay picker and check the badge.
How to Identify Free Overlays (The Reliable Way)
In the RaceLab app
- Open RaceLab.
- Open your Layout Editor for the sim you use.
- Click Add overlay (the overlay picker list).
- Look at each overlay name:
- No Pro badge = free to use.
- Pro badge = requires Pro.
- Add only a couple first, save, then expand your layout.
Why this page doesn’t hard-lock a “forever list”
RaceLab changes often (new overlays, renamed overlays, tier changes).
The app’s overlay picker is always the authority for what is currently free vs Pro.
This page is here to help you identify free overlays quickly and build a clean first layout.
Common “Core” Overlays You’ll See Often
These are examples of commonly used overlays that appear frequently in RaceLab updates and community setups.
Use the badge in your app to confirm whether each one is free on your current version.

Race context
- Standings – full order, gaps, class context (great on a side screen).
- Relative – cars ahead/behind with live gaps (great while driving).
Awareness
- Radar – “who is alongside me” awareness for close racing. [2]
- Fuel tools – fuel per lap / laps remaining style overlays (names can vary per version).
Tip: keep your first layout simple: Relative + Standings + Radar is a very common “starter stack”.
Add fuel tools once the basics are stable.
Build Your First Free-Friendly Layout (Recommended)
- Start the sim and go on track (not menus).
- Open RaceLab → Layout Editor.
- Add 2–3 overlays only (don’t “go crazy” on the first run).
- Position them, then lock overlays.
- Save the layout, exit the sim once, re-enter and confirm it loads cleanly.
Lock/Unlock overlays: CTRL + SHIFT + L ·
Show/Hide overlays: CTRL + SHIFT + H
Quick Fixes (When Free Overlays “Don’t Show”)
Overlays are invisible
- The sim is often in exclusive fullscreen. Switch to windowed/borderless and restart the sim once.
- Make sure you are on track before judging data.
- Try starting order: start sim → go on track → then open RaceLab.
Overlays open but have no data
- Confirm you selected the correct sim profile inside RaceLab.
- Check the sim’s telemetry settings (varies by sim).
- Close other telemetry apps for the first test.
