Streaming Overlays – Free to Use

RaceLab includes a set of streaming overlays designed primarily for Twitch streams. These overlays are all free to use – no Pro subscription required – and can be run alongside your race overlays or on a separate browser source in OBS / streaming software.

Some streaming overlays work with any stream layout (for example Garage cover, Mic visualizer, Promo code alert, Custom URL and Custom text). The dedicated Chat and Chat highlight streaming overlays currently support Twitch chat only – YouTube and other platforms are not yet supported for these two overlays.

Quick rule: if you see a small Pro icon after the overlay name in RaceLab, that feature is Pro only. The streaming overlays listed on this page do not show that icon – they are free for every RaceLab user.

Overview of Streaming Overlays

Overlay Main purpose Typical use on stream
Chat Shows your Twitch chat inside an overlay.
(Twitch only – YouTube and other platforms are not supported yet.)
Pin in a corner so viewers can see Twitch chat replay on VODs and clips.
Chat highlight Displays one Twitch chat message at a time in a large, clean box.
(Also Twitch only – YouTube and other platforms are not supported yet.)
Use to feature questions, donations, or funny comments during the show.
Chat race game Lets chat send commands that affect a mini “race” game. Great for warm-up or break screens – keeps chat engaged between sessions.
Chat race standing Shows the current standings for the chat race game. Place near the top or side so viewers can follow who’s leading.
Custom text Simple text box overlay. Use for messages like “Be right back”, sponsor names, Discord links, etc.
Custom URL Loads a webpage inside an overlay frame. Ideal for showing external widgets, alerts, or a simple web dashboard.
Garage cover Full-screen or large panel cover while you’re in the garage / menus. Use during car setup, menu navigation, or when hiding sensitive info.
Mic visualizer Audio-reactive bar or waveform for your microphone. Place near your webcam to show when you’re speaking or muted.
Promo code alert Shows a message or panel with your promo / affiliate code. Pin this where it is always visible when you want to promote a code.

Note: Only the Chat and Chat highlight streaming overlays are limited to Twitch chat. The other streaming overlays on this page can be used in any standard streaming scene layout.

Quick setup – Streaming overlays in RaceLab

  1. Open the RaceLab App and go to the Layouts section.
  2. Create or edit a layout used only for your stream (for example “Stream – Chat & Alerts”).
  3. Click Add widget and choose the streaming overlay you want: Chat, Chat highlight, Chat race game, Garage cover, Mic visualizer, Promo code alert, etc.
  4. Position and scale each overlay so it fits your stream scene in OBS or your streaming software.
  5. Copy the overlay URL from RaceLab into a Browser Source in OBS.
  6. Save the scene and test in a private or unlisted stream before going live.

You can mix multiple streaming overlays in the same layout – for example: Chat + Mic visualizer + Promo code alert for a “talking” scene, or Garage cover + Chat for when you’re changing car setup.

RaceLab Support – Streaming Overlays (Free to Use)

Streaming Overlays – Free to Use

RaceLab includes a group of streaming overlays that are designed to be used in your broadcasting software (OBS, Streamlabs, etc.) rather than on your main driving screen. The overlays on this page are all free to use – no Pro subscription is required – and they can be added to your stream layout as normal browser sources.

Important: the dedicated Chat and Chat highlight streaming overlays are currently built for Twitch chat only. YouTube and other platforms are not supported yet for those two overlays. The other streaming overlays listed here (Garage cover, Mic visualiser, Custom text / URL, Promo code alert, etc.) can be used in any standard streaming scene.

Overview of free streaming overlays

Overlay Main purpose Typical use on stream
Chat Shows your Twitch channel chat inside an overlay box.
(Twitch only – YouTube and other platforms are not supported yet.)
Pin in a corner of your layout so viewers can see chat in VODs and clips, even if the Twitch chat panel is hidden.
Chat highlight Displays a single Twitch chat message in a large, readable box.
(Also Twitch only at the moment.)
Use this to feature good questions, useful tips, donations, or funny comments during the show without the whole chat taking up space.
Chat race game Lets chat send commands that control a small “race” game overlay. Great for warm-up, be-right-back scenes, or mid-session breaks while chat competes against each other in a fun mini race.
Chat race standing Shows the live standings for the chat race game. Place near the top or side of your layout so viewers can quickly see who is leading the chat race at any time.
Custom text A simple overlay that shows any short block of text you type in RaceLab. Use for “Stream starting soon”, “Be right back”, sponsor names, Discord links, or notes you want visible on screen.
Custom URL Loads a web page or web widget inside an overlay frame. Ideal for showing external alert widgets, statistics dashboards, web-based timers, or other tools alongside your RaceLab overlays.
Garage cover A full-screen or large panel cover that hides the game while you are in the garage, menus, or doing setup work. Use this when adjusting car setups, changing graphics options, or entering passwords / server info so viewers see a clean panel instead of menus.
Mic visualiser An audio-reactive bar or waveform linked to your microphone. Place near your webcam or nameplate so viewers can see when you are talking or muted, and get a sense of mic volume at a glance.
Promo code alert Shows a message panel with your promo or affiliate code. Keep this visible during streams where you want to promote a discount or referral code without having to mention it every few minutes.

Quick setup – adding streaming overlays to your scene

  1. Open the RaceLab App and go to the Layouts section.
  2. Create or edit a layout that you will use only for your stream (for example: “Stream – Chat & Alerts”).
  3. Click Add widget and choose the streaming overlay you want: Chat, Chat highlight, Chat race game, Garage cover, Mic visualiser, Promo code alert, Custom text or Custom URL.
  4. Position and scale each overlay so it fits the scene in OBS / Streamlabs (for example a chat box on the right, promo panel at the top, mic visualiser under your webcam).
  5. Copy the overlay URL from RaceLab and paste it into a Browser Source in your streaming software.
  6. Run a short private / unlisted test stream to confirm everything looks right before you go live.

You can combine multiple streaming overlays in one layout – for example Chat + Mic visualiser + Promo code alert for a “talking” scene, or Garage cover + Chat for when you are changing setups between races.
