RFactor2 VR Graphics Configuration

  • If you have setup Rfactor2 by using the First steps instructions, and overlays are not seen in VR try the followings steps
  • If using a Quest 2 or 3 headset, set Oculus as default openXR runtime, in the Oculus computer program.
  • If your using a VR headset that uses Windows Mixed Realty (WMR) then set WMR as the default openxr runtime.
  • When starting Rfactor2 via steam, select "Start in SteamVR mode"
  • Start Racelabs and if your Not using Crewchief VR method, then start VR mode in Racelabs.  To find this page start Rfactor2 from Steam menu, and select Rfactor2 Graphics config settings - This should only be needed once. To find this page start Rfactor2 from Steam menu, and select Rfactor2 Graphics config settings - This should only be needed once. This page appears.

If experiences blurred overlays in VR


Some VR headsets, such as Pimax and Odysset, may display blurry / double image effect in game or when Racelab overlays are used.

  1. Open this folder: \Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player
  2. Find file called player.json
  3. Open this file in notepad
  4. Click Edit / Find and search for "VR Projection Mode":1,
  5. If the value is set to 0 then change it to 1, and save the file. Restart computer - headset and Rfactor 2

3. Refresh Rate : VR Max rate
4. Post Effiect : Low
5. VR : HMD Only

In Game Setup

1. Circuit Detail : Medium
2. Player Detail : Medium - enough when using vr
3. Opponent Detail ; Medium - enough when using vr
4. Texture Detail : High
5. Texture Filter : Bilinear
6. Special Effect : Medium
7. Shadow : Low - use a lot of resources
8. Shadow Blur : off
9. Soft Particles : low
10. Rain Drops : low
11. Road reflection : off- use a lot of resources and useless for vr
12. Environment reflection : off - use a lot of resources and useless for vr
13. Low speed info screen position : 15 %
14. Stablise Horizon : High -important for smooth movement and preventing motion sickness
