RaceLab – Installation & Setup Guide

This guide walks you through installing RaceLab, setting it up for sim racing, and getting your first overlays running correctly. Works for single-monitor, multi-monitor, and supported simulators such as iRacing, ACC, rFactor 2 and more.

1. Download & Install RaceLab

  • Go to the official RaceLab website and download the Windows installer. Download from RaceLab website
  • Run the installer as a normal Windows program. Accept defaults unless you know what you’re doing.
  • Launch RaceLab after installation, log in or create your account to activate free or Pro features as needed.

2. Set up your simulator

  • Open your sim (e.g. iRacing, ACC, rFactor 2) settings and ensure you are using windowed or borderless windowed mode, not full-screen exclusive. This is required for overlays to display correctly.
  • For iRacing: make sure car count / max cars is set appropriately for your series (up to 63 cars is common for official sessions).

3. Launch & enable overlays

  1. Start RaceLab before launching your sim — this often ensures smooth overlay hooking. Community feedback shows this avoids many issues.
  2. In RaceLab’s overlay menu, enable the overlays you want (e.g. Relative, Standings, Radar, Fuel, etc.).
  3. Drag overlay windows to where you want them on your monitor(s), then click the lock icon (or use shortcut Ctrl + Shift + L) to keep them fixed. This allows free placement — even across multiple screens.
  4. If using multiple monitors or a triple-screen setup: place overlays appropriately (e.g. main info center, radar on left, standings on right) and test with a practice session. Overlays should display and update in real time.

4. Start your session!

With overlays and sim running, you should now see RaceLab data overlaid on your game screen. If nothing shows up, try restarting RaceLab, then the sim — or check your sim graphics mode (should be windowed/borderless). In stubborn cases, clearing local cache and reinstalling RaceLab can also help.

5. Optional: VR & Streaming Setup

If you plan to use VR or stream your sim, RaceLab supports VR overlays (via RaceLabVR) and browser-source streaming overlays (chat, highlights, custom layouts).

  • Install RaceLabVR via the separate installer if prompted.
  • In VR mode, open overlay settings to choose which overlays to display and how they appear. Default positions are provided, but you should fine-tune placement for your headset.
  • For streaming: enable browser-source overlays in RaceLab and set them in your streaming software (OBS / Streamlabs). Note: some overlays or features may still require a Pro subscription when using Layout Builder or advanced stream overlays.
Important: Running a sim in full-screen exclusive mode remains the most common cause of overlays not appearing. Always ensure windowed or borderless mode when using RaceLab.
