Helpful Tools
RaceLab works best when paired with the right supporting tools. This page lists useful utilities, diagnostic programs and online resources that can help you configure, monitor and troubleshoot your sim-racing setup.
These tools can help with:
- Checking frame rate and overall performance.
- Testing network ports or telemetry connections.
- Monitoring overlays and extra display windows.
- Cleaning or verifying configuration files.
- Backing up RaceLab or sim-specific settings.
None of these are required to use RaceLab, but many users find them extremely helpful when setting things up for the first time or solving a stubborn problem.
Examples of helpful tools

Windows Task Manager / Resource Monitor
Use these to check CPU, GPU and memory usage when running RaceLab and your sim. Helpful for spotting bottlenecks or something else maxing out your PC. -
FPS / performance overlays
Any FPS counter (Steam overlay, NVIDIA overlay, Xbox Game Bar, etc.) can show your frame rate, frame time and GPU load while RaceLab overlays are active. Useful when tuning graphics or layout settings. -
OBS Studio (or other capture tools)
Lets you record or stream with RaceLab overlays visible. You can test different window modes and overlay positions while watching the preview. -
Network tools (ping, tracert, speed tests)
Simple tools likepingandtracertplus browser speed tests help confirm that your internet connection is stable if overlays seem to lag or drop. -
File search tools
Utilities such as “Everything” (file search) make it much easier to find configuration files, log files or old installs when cleaning up or backing up your setup. -
Backup tools
Any simple backup program (or even manual copy to another drive) is very helpful for keeping safe copies of your RaceLab layouts, sim configs and important documents before you make big changes.
Tip: You do not need every tool listed here. Start with the ones that match the problem you are trying to solve (performance, network, streaming, or backups).
